Hi Sam,
Usually you would never want to have a portable oxygen concentrator completely replace your home unit. A home oxygen concentrator provides a continuous flow of oxygen, which is recommended for use while sleeping. Also, a home concentrator is much more rugged than a portable unit, so it is better to put most of the hours used on a home unit rather than a portable unit.
The Inogen G3 is a great unit for daytime and travel use. The only complaint I have heard is that the unit does produce a rather loud purging sound about once every 15 seconds. Those who are sensitive to noise, or who intend to use the unit is quiet places, may wish to choose another unit that does not have this purging sound. I have heard that Inogen is working on reducing the sound, but I do not know how long before that is accomplished.
